"I'm Only Human"

March 7, 2017

This year's "Lift at the Grammys" series was kicked off with our version of Rag 'N' Bone Man's hit song Human. I love this song because of the soul and also because it resounds. Pun totally intended.

We're human... fallible... breakable!

On Sunday we covered how God knows that we are sinful people. He knows we can't be perfect, so He became our perfection. Through Jesus on the cross, we are made whole, and made new!

On the other side of the coin, while we are sinful people, we aren't suppose to stay in our sin. Some people use the idea that "I'm only human" to give justification to stay the way they are. This is NOT what Christ intended when He died on the cross. He came for our freedom and liberty, which means LEAVING our past and PRESSING forward (Phil 3:13). We still have a responsibility to choose Christ over our sinful desires, over our destructive habits, over our selfish ways.

This doesn't mean that God is expecting us to be completely different tomorrow. But it does mean that He is going to guide us through a process of change.

2 Cor 3:18 - "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit."

God loves you so much that He is willing to bring you through a process of transformation! Our part is not to much to try harder, but to choose better. To continue to choose to be responsible in my relationship with Christ. To choose to trust God rather than myself. To choose the life that Christ has made available for us rather than to stay in the comforts of my old ways.

I am human. I make mistakes. But I am human and I also have choice. I want to use my human choice to choose the divine life God has prepared for me. What choice are you going to make?
