Someone remarked that "covenants" form the backbone of the Bible. It is through the covenants that we see God's heart for humanity, and the way that His redemption plan was put into action.
A covenant is basically a chosen relationship in which two parties make binding promises to each other. Through the Bible God makes covenants with different people, from Abraham, to Moses, to David, and ultimately us. God binds Himself to fulfilling these promises that He made, and so they can form a solid basis for us to understand what He intends to accomplish.
For me personally, I found out about the covenants when I was in a place of questioning whether God liked me or not. I was in a situation where I felt as though God didn't really care. It was then that I heard about how the covenants were more than just some promises, but they needed to be pieced together to form a much bigger picture. Covenants show us how God has been pursuing humanity since the beginning of time. This absolutely blew my mind! To see the decisions God made in the Bible through the lens of the covenants is amazing and reveals the significance of Jesus.
